2fish Ministries - Turning a little into a lot for many!
2fish Ministries is a division of FaithQuest Missions. This is the story of how that came to be...
In late 2003, as a part of a "Kingdom Assignment" Emmy Blakely was given $10 and told to use this money, which was not her's but God's, to somehow further the kingdom of God. After weeks of losing sleep over this responsibility Emmy was finally inspired watching an episode of Oprah. She watched as Oprah visited South Africa and came face-to-face with an impoverished nation full of orphaned and starving children. Emmy knew at that moment that she wanted to somehow multiply the $10 and use it to put together care packages for the children of Africa. She contacted John, and asked if it would be possible for his team from FaithQuest to transport these packages.
A few months later, with help from friends and family, the $10 had become $1100 and they had assembled 100 packages with clothing, toys, and toiletries for children of all ages. The packages were so well received that the following year John's team in Africa asked if it would be possible for them to send more. At that point Emmy enlisted the help of her very good friend and super-sidekick, Amber Stagner (who also happens to be John's daughter). Inspired by the story of Jesus feeding five thousand with just five loaves of bread and two fish, Emmy and Amber formed 2fish Ministries, with the dream of turning a little into a lot for many. They put together another set of packages... and again the next year... and here they are again preparing for 2007.
A partnership...
In partnership with FaithQuest, 2fish Ministries has rallied others here in the USA on their mission to provide relief to some of the poorest children of the world. These packages have helped to equip FaithQuest teams as they are able to take them in their luggage and deliver them with love to those in need, or to the ministries that serve them. For a recent trip as an example, 2fish Ministries team assembled and sent more than 700 pounds of specifically needed and requested items to South Africa. They sent new clothing, blankets and baby supplies to the Bowy House for HIV/AIDS children, as well as 120 new backpacks for Monte Christo Ministries filled with all new children's clothes, toys, children's Bibles, sweets, notes of love, and more. They have been privileged to provide soccer balls and uniforms, lap tops, literature, school supplies, and much, much more to John's teams in Africa. They and their growing team are equipping short term teams and blessing the neediest moms and their children across the waters!
Photo abpve: Some of the 2fish backpacks mentioned above being enthusiastically received by volunteers in South Africa! Many will go to children who are fire victims who have lost their shack and everything they own due to fire. Because the shacks in the townships are made of scrap wood, are built very close together, and open fire is used for cooking and heating, structure fires taking many shacks are sadly not uncommon.
